Definition: Tension screws are primarily designed to be screwed into wood. Functionally, they are larger, stronger wood screws with hexagonal heads. Tension screws are one of the toughest screw types available.
Description: Tension screws, also known as tension bolts, are commonly used to join heavy wood and other materials subjected to strong loads. The hysteresis screws get their name from the fact that they were originally used to fix barrel staves, also known as hysteresis.
Application: Tension screws are used to compress crack fragments. It is threaded into the opposite cortex and slides through a hole in the proximal cortex. Tighten the screw to compress the fracture fragment by pressing the screw head against the proximal cortex. Ideally, the tension screws should be perpendicular to the fracture surface.
Note: Tension screws require drilling a hole with the same diameter as the screw shaft, and the bracelet point helps to pull the screw into the hole and tap its thread.
